Despite the fact that the action figures of the video game have been on sale since 2021, it was only this week that Disney Mirrorverse reached mobile devices around the world. The title, from its trailers and images, anticipated a lot of action from alternative versions of Disney and Pixar characters, but the reality turned out to be quite different. The plot of the title -or rather the excuse to gather all the characters of the studio in one place- shows a stellar event that gives rise to this Mirror Universe, where different versions of Disney characters are born ready for sword combat, bows and lots of magic. Not much is known about this event or its implications, but different heroes of the Mirrorverse, called Guardians, must stop the Fractured, evil versions of themselves, before it's too late. The game doesn't make much of an effort to present its premise and doesn't have as great cutscenes as the ones in the trailers, but that's not a problem. The truth is that the focus of Mirrorverse is elsewhere and is to collect the different characters of the Disney multiverse. In the first hours of the game, players must go through the levels of the main campaign to unlock all the features of the title. You start with Rapunzel and quickly unlock a second hero, as well as the ability to add more characters to your battle team. After beating the first three worlds, you can already enjoy almost everything the Mirrorverse has to offer, as long as you have time and a little money. Each level takes players to different locations from Disney movies and series where they must engage in combat with Fractured to continue advancing. Each character has a weak attack, a strong attack, and a special ability that charges up over time.Different Guardians can belong to one of four main classes - Melee, Ranged, Tank and Support - which influences the types of attacks they can make. All levels have different basic enemies, with specific characteristics and difficulties, and one or more Disney characters to defeat at the end in a slightly more epic confrontation. This playable part of the Mirrorverse can be placed in the category of Action RPGs, but it is the section that sells out the fastest.Players can choose to control the heroes or let the battle play itself out automatically. If the power of the team is above the recommended power of the level, there will be no major shocks, but if it is below, it is advisable to take action on the matter and avoid certain defeat with more dodges than usual. In any case, as you progress through the different game modes, you can unlock the possibility of receiving rewards automatically without the need to star in confrontations, something that becomes repetitive very quickly.Guardians of the Mirrorverse can level up, rank up, and rarity with a variety of items that can be earned as rewards, purchased with in-game currency, or purchased with real money. There are many elements to take into account when improving the power level of the team, which is the main section to be able to advance and continue carrying out missions. There is a lot to take into account and each new requirement will lead players to try out different game modes, including several dedicated solely to training heroes and unlocking abilities.Players can play Disney Mirrorverse as long as they have enough energy to do so.Each level or mission requires a certain amount and it is something that can be recharged with items that are obtained for free, although not as frequently. It is true that the free rewards, which only require waiting, are enough, but they may not be enough for an intense game pace. That's where microtransactions come into play, another of the protagonists of Disney Mirrorverse. The title does not interrupt the action with advertisements or notices, but with promotions of Guardians, crystals and other items that can be purchased in the store. The Limited Time Events section also features several quick deals that constantly entice players to come back for more.As in other similar video games, opting for the free path means spending much more time chasing new characters and abilities, while money can speed things up a lot.In any case, from Kabam, the developer studio, they ensure that the experience is balanced and those who use money will not get better rewards than others. The events make it clear that Disney Mirrorverse is here to install itself as a new game as a service, surely celebrating each new release of the studio, whether on the big or small screen. It is unknown if other franchises, such as Star Wars and Marvel, will say present at some point, but the possibility of seeing characters, scenarios or even limited-time themed objects is not ruled out.The first hours of Disney Mirrorverse are as entertaining as they are overwhelming due to the amount of information and elements to take into account when unlocking heroes, improving them and completing missions. However, the combat quickly takes a backseat and becomes an obstacle between the player and their rewards, because Disney Mirrorverse is not that Action RPG, but rather a gacha title. The goal in the Disney Mirrorverse is to get the largest collection of Guardians of the Mirror Universe.Fighting in the main campaign, clearing different dungeons, or training heroes in challenging towers are some of the ways to achieve that goal, but sooner or later they become skippable tasks that aren't worth spending a lot of time on.Another of the promises seen in trailers was the game graphics, which would show epic battles as if it were a Pixar movie.Unfortunately, the visuals leave a lot to be desired, with meme-worthy facial expressions, repetitive scenarios, and some uninspired designs.Additionally, in an adventure where characters from different franchises officially cross paths and interact for the first time, there are no voice actors, which seems like a wasted opportunity. The game also has social features to chat and create Alliances, which opens a new section with more rewards and daily and weekly tasks. The sheer number of game elements manage to ensure that players always have something to do every couple of hours, at least. The content offer is more than decent for a title released a few days ago and everything seems to indicate that it will not stop growing. This type of video game is extremely popular among Japanese franchises, but it is not something that is common for those who do not consume anime or are familiar with Japanese culture.Disney Mirrorverse, thanks to the wide range of characters and franchises that it encompasses, can be an interesting starting point for many young gamers -and not so young- who are beginning to discover the genre and its addictive formula.Disney is known for abandoning projects of this style, where many of its franchises come together in an epic adventure, but Mirrorverse came at a very good time for mobile and gacha titles, which can anticipate an interesting future.Of course, those looking forward to their new favorite action game are going to be sorely disappointed, but those looking to try their luck daily with random rewards from their favorite franchises may have found a new hobby.
